Positioning Yourself for Change
I was so blessed by Wednesday night's (July 29) Bible study that Micah taught through Phillippians 4. The teaching was excellent, and the discussion afterward was rich with wisdom and encouragement.
One though especially stayed with me: I have to position myself for change.
The next morning, as I spent time with the Lord, He began to show me what that looks like in my own life.
As I read my devotional, everything came together, and I was inspired to write this short devotional below:
Positioning Yourself for Change
Scripture: Philippians 4:4–9
One question has been stirring in my heart:
“Lord, how do I position myself for change?”
As I reflected on Philippians 4, I realized that God has already shown us.
Positioning ourselves for change doesn't begin by changing our circumstances. It begins by changing our response.
Paul tells us to rejoice in the Lord, refuse anxiety, pray with thanksgiving, think on what is true and lovely, and then practice these things. These are not just good suggestions—they are ways weposition our hearts to receive God's peace and walk in His strength.
The next morning, my devotional confirmed what the Lord was showing me:
“One key to staying strong in your faith is what you say. When you speak what God says, especially when it's hard, you're reinforcing your trust in Him. Confessing truth out loud doesn't change God, but it changes you.”
That sentence stayed with me.
Our words matter. When fear says, “Nothing will ever change,” we answer with God's Word. When discouragement whispers, “You'll never make it,” we declare His promises. Every time we agree with God instead of our feelings, we are positioning ourselves for His work in our lives.
Speaking God's Word doesn't force His hand. It aligns our hearts with His truth. It renews our minds, strengthens our faith, and reminds us that His promises are more reliable than our emotions.
Real change often begins long before we see it. It begins when we choose to rejoice, pray, think on truth, and speak what God has said.
Today's Declaration of Faith
Father, I thank You that Your Word is changing me from the inside out. I choose to rejoice in You today. I refuse to let fear or discouragement have the final word. I thank You that as I speak Your truth, You are renewing my mind, strengthening my faith, and positioning my heart for everything You have prepared for me. I agree with Your promises, and I trust that You are working even when I cannot yet see the change. In Jesus' name, amen.
